Connect Claude to your WordPress site.
WPMate is listed in Claude's connector directory. It lets Claude work directly on your self-hosted WordPress sites. Ask Claude to draft a post, fix meta descriptions or update plugins, and it does the work for you, pausing for your approval before anything risky.
What Claude can do on your site
- Write and edit: draft posts and pages from a brief, rewrite sections, set categories, tags, excerpts and featured images.
- Fix SEO: run an SEO audit, then write missing meta descriptions and better titles, saved to Yoast, Rank Math, All in One SEO or SEOPress.
- Keep the site healthy: run a security audit, update plugins and themes with a backup first, and roll back if something breaks.
- Tidy media: find images without alt text and fill it in, add images from a URL.
- Restyle: change colours, fonts and spacing with custom CSS, and undo in one step.
Claude only acts through WPMate's 26 scoped tools. It can't run arbitrary code or database queries on your site. See the full feature list.
Set it up in three steps
- Create a WPMate account. Sign up free and confirm your email address.
- Connect your WordPress site. In your WPMate dashboard, create a connection code. On your site, install the free Mate Connector plugin (Plugins → Add New, or download the zip), open Settings → WPMate, paste the code and click Connect.
- Add WPMate to Claude. Open WPMate in the Claude directory and click Connect (or in Claude go to Customize → Connectors and search “WPMate”). Sign in to your WPMate account and click Allow. There’s no URL to copy.
Now start a chat and try: “List my WordPress sites.” The connector works in Claude on the web, the desktop and mobile apps, and in Claude Code. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization Owner enables WPMate for the organization first (members can request it from the directory), then each member connects their own WPMate account.
Claude app without the connector directory? Add a custom connector with the URL https://wpmate.ai/mcp instead. It’s the same connector.
Prompts to try
You stay in control
Claude can draft and edit freely, because every content edit keeps a WordPress revision. Changes that are public or hard to undo work differently: publishing, trashing, plugin and theme changes and rollbacks are sent to your Approvals page in WPMate. Nothing happens until you click Approve. Then tell Claude, and it reports the result.
Frequently asked questions
Does Claude have a WordPress plugin?
Claude connects to other services through connectors. WPMate is a WordPress connector listed in the Claude connector directory: install the free Mate Connector plugin on your site, connect WPMate in Claude, and Claude can work on your site.
Which Claude plans can use WPMate?
Any Claude plan that lets you add connectors. Anthropic decides which plans include connectors and that can change, so check Settings → Connectors in your Claude account. WPMate itself has a free plan.
Can Claude break my site?
Risky changes need your approval first, content edits can be undone from revisions, CSS changes are snapshotted and plugin and theme updates take a backup. We still recommend keeping regular backups of your site.
Does it work with WordPress.com?
It works with self-hosted WordPress (WordPress 6.2 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, over HTTPS) where you can install plugins. WordPress.com plans that don't allow plugins aren't supported.
Can I connect more than one site?
Yes. The free plan connects one site; Pro and Agency connect unlimited sites. Just tell Claude which site you mean.
