A WordPress SEO audit that fixes what it finds.
Most SEO tools hand you a list. WPMate's audit runs inside your AI assistant, so the next message can be “fix them”: Claude or ChatGPT writes the missing meta descriptions, shortens titles and adds alt text on your actual site.
What the audit checks
Site-wide
- Search engines blocked by “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” (critical)
- Plain
?p=123permalinks instead of readable URLs - Site not served over HTTPS
- Missing XML sitemap, site icon or a real tagline
- No SEO plugin active, and duplicate titles across pages
Every published post and page
| Check | Flagged when |
|---|---|
| Meta description | Missing, or outside 70–160 characters (120–155 recommended) |
| SEO title | Longer than about 60 characters or shorter than 15 |
| Thin content | Posts under 300 words; pages under 100 words (except the homepage) |
| Headings | A second H1 inside the content, or 600+ words with no subheadings |
| Image alt text | Images in the content with no alt text |
| Internal links | Posts over 300 words that link to nothing else on the site |
| Featured image | Missing |
Each issue comes with a severity, the post or page it affects and a suggested fix, plus an overall score. By default the newest 100 published posts and pages are checked, up to 500.
From audit to fixed in one conversation
SEO titles and descriptions are saved where your SEO plugin expects them: Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO or SEOPress. With no SEO plugin, WPMate outputs the title and description tags itself. Every content edit keeps a WordPress revision, so you can undo any change.
What it doesn't do
The audit looks at your site's own content and settings. It doesn't measure rankings, backlinks, keyword volumes or page speed, and it doesn't crawl other sites. Pair it with Google Search Console for traffic and indexing data. Layouts built with page builders such as Elementor are checked for title, description and featured image only.

Frequently asked questions
Is the WordPress SEO audit free?
Yes. The SEO audit is included on every plan, including the free Starter plan (1 site, 100 AI actions a day). Running an audit uses one AI action; each fix uses one more.
Do I need Yoast or Rank Math?
No. WPMate works with Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO and SEOPress if you have one, and handles titles and meta descriptions itself if you don't. An SEO plugin is still useful for sitemaps, schema and social previews.
Will the AI rewrite my content without asking?
The AI only changes what you ask it to. Edits are saved as WordPress revisions you can restore, new content stays a draft until you publish, and publishing needs your approval in the WPMate dashboard.
How often should I run an SEO audit?
After publishing a batch of content and at least monthly. Scheduled weekly audits are on our roadmap.
